7 Best Sex Positions You Should Try During Pregnancy

I have a sister-in-law who is always apprehensive about different sex positions during pregnancy. Each time she discussed it with me, though, still single, but would encourage her to try one or two from the following.

I know I can be curious and adventurous, so it makes it easy for us to talk about this. But unlike my sister-in-law, I have a few married friends who share their sexual ecstasy with me while pregnant, so it makes me really look forward to this stage of womanhood.

Been anxious about sex positions during pregnancy is a major discussion among women of various classes, ages, ethnics, race and colours. When you find yourself in the midst of married women that are intimate, they often talk about this. So, I decided to write about it and help a few pregnant women like my sister-in-law who are worried about having sex or exploring different sex positions during pregnancy.

As a pregnant woman, you should learn to enjoy every trimester of your baby bump. Sex shouldn’t be a barrier to your sexual fantasies and pleasure. If you try a sex position today and you feel uncomfortable, you can try another. Just keep exploring this world of sex till you are satisfied.

If you are experiencing a healthy pregnancy, there aren’t really any sex positions during pregnancy that are considered off-limits, but doctors generally advise that you should avoid lying flat on your back (i.e. in missionary) after about 20 weeks or so.

As a woman with a baby bump, you can lie down on your side and have your partner curl up next to your back, entering you from behind. “Spooning may be the best third trimester position of all,” says licensed marriage and sex therapist Kat Van Kirk, PhD. “It’s comfortable, no one has to exert themselves too much, and deep penetration is difficult to achieve, which is good for your cervix if it’s sensitive.” Spooning also keeps pressure off of your belly (and bladder), and leaves your hands free to rub your clitoris for extra stimulation.

Side by side

This sex position requires that you lie down facing your partner and have him move his leg over yours (legs can be straight or bent at the knee) and enter you from an angle. This position “allows for variation in speed and depth,” says Rachel Needle, PsyD, a sex therapist and licensed psychologist at the Center for Marital and Sexual Health of South Florida. “It is also great because it doesn’t require a lot of energy.”

Also, side by side is one of those sex positions while pregnant which enables that extra intimacy because at this point, you and your partner can look in each other’s eyes while making love.

Be on top

You can allow your spouse to lie down and perch him from above. This position permits you to set the pace and keep pressure off your belly, which allows you to be in charge.

Gradually shift around a little to see which angles feel best for you, then place your hands on the top of the headboard at the same time can help you stabilize yourself as well as save your energy and give you more angle options.

Edge of the bed

Take your time to lie down on the edge of your bed face-up with your feet on the floor. Then, fasten your torso up on your elbows and have your spouse stand or bend over you while penetrating. This position allows you to move your hips to target what feels good for you.

Rear entry

Strut yourself up on all fours and have your partner penetrate from behind. Be sexy about it by encouraging him to take it slow and communicate about what does and doesn’t feel right. Your cervix may be especially sensitive during this time, experts say. Rear-entry puts no pressure on your bladder or uterus; so it makes it an very good sex option for women in their third trimester.

Against the wall

You can stand facing the wall with your legs spread and your hands against the wall; either above your head or at shoulder height as your partner stands behind you and slides inside. This has many of the same benefits as rear-entry, but allows you to mix it up a little while having support from the wall.

Reverse cowgirl

Tell your partner to lie down on his back and straddle him while he faces his toes. Among the different sex positions while pregnant, this one puts you in control of penetration depth, speed, rhythm, and angles. Experts say that this sex position provides pressure against your G-spot, which can create a different and more enthusiastic orgasmic reaction.
